Greycoat Real Estate Hopes the Government Acts to Prevent More Homelessness

Homes are being repossessed, and people are being evicted in record numbers, so many people need legal aid according to Greycoat Real Estate. They suggest that the UK government expand access to this safety net now to prevent the disaster that is coming. 

Specifically, the real estate agency specialists comment, landlord possession claims increased by 6%, and mortgage possession claims increased by 28%. Because of these numbers, Greycoat Real Estate is concerned that there is a growing number of people at risk of losing their housing. 

Lately, prices have been increasing, and this is making it difficult for people to make ends meet. In addition to that, interest rates are rising, so people’s bills also increase. These increases are making it difficult for people to pay their monthly rent and mortgage payments, and the only recourse they have is legal aid according to Greycoat Real Estate. The problem is that not everyone has access to legal aid. 

Greycoat Real Estate discovered that 25.3 million people are not located in an area where they can access a legal aid provider when they need advice on their housing options. The UK government created the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service to increase people’s ability to find housing advice, but the agency is not having the impact that the government hoped it would.

Legal aid rates have been decreasing by 50% since 1996, so, up to now, they confirm how an increasing number of law firms can no longer afford to provide housing advice. Greycoat Real Estate stated that the points of pain are very obvious and that the government does not have a lot of time to prevent a growing number of people from losing their housing.
